Logo and Merch Design for Natural Selection #17126

In high school I was part of an FTC robotics team (FTC is a robotics competition league) on the first year it was formed: team Natural Selection #17126. I was excited since the team had no "design" or logo, so it was an opportunity for me to create one!

Logo

Thinking on the theme of Natural Selection, I wanted to incorporate the idea of DNA.

First because it related so directly to the team name, but second because if I designed it just right I could get it to be a logo that repeats with itself just like DNA.

Shirt

We needed a shirt for the team, so for the front I utilized the logo repeated one time, with some secondary strands beside it. On the back, I just put a large repeated logo with the team number over it.

Unfortunately I don't have photos from the very first time it was created, so you might notice quite a bit of cracking from use over the years 😅

Poster

For the poster, I utilized a repeating logo for the entire background.

However the content of the poster takes center stage of course, so in order to maintain continuity of the DNA strands I utilized a blurred background on content cards.

Because of the repeatability of the logo, it allows for a lot of flexibility in terms of form factors. For larger spaces like the poster background, you can repeat the logo a lot, whereas for shirts you can either just enlarge the logo itself or create much smaller DNA strands.
